CONNIE LYNCH, PH.D.
Dr. Connie Lynch is a scientist-turned-educator. She earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in microbiology from Cornell University and followed those with a Ph.D. in Education from the University of California at Berkeley.
As an
educator, Dr. Lynch became interested in the relationships between the processes of
scientific thinking and human mental development. As a result, she became a specialist in
the Piagetian model of thinking and learning. She attended classes at the Rousseau
Institute, Piagets educational establishment in Geneva, Switzerland. Subsequently,
she taught in the education departments of several California institutions: U.C. Berkeley,
Holy Names College, St. Marys College, and Sonoma State University.
Dr. Lynchs continuing interest in thinking and learning led her to develop and introduce MIND WORKS: The Mental Fitness Connection, a critical and creative thinking program for older adults. Since the initial MIND WORKS session in October 1986, she has continued to provide mental fitness instruction for groups in senior centers and other meeting places. She has addressed diverse gatherings within the San Francisco Bay Area concerning the importance of maintaining mental fitness and has been invited to speak to such groups as the medical staff at Kaiser Permanente in Richmond (CA), the American Association of Retired Persons. MIND WORKS has introduced a unique, personalized cognitive rebuilding program for individuals who have experienced brain damage.
In addition to conducting conference sessions in many parts of the United States, she has made television appearances on KTVU (Fox) in Oakland and both KRON (NBC) and KGO (ABC) in San Francisco. She is often asked to appear as an expert guest on radio talk shows.
